Colin Bradford
Guitar
Colin received his Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance at Columbia College Chicago. He majored in Music Performance (Classical Guitar), studying MIDI composition, harmony, music theory and ear training. Furthering his musical studies, he received his Master of Arts in Media Scoring, Sound Editing, Music Supervision from Brooklyn College.
Colin’s knowledge of different guitar styles and techniques, as well as his strong communication and interpersonal skills enable him to effectively interact with students of different ages and skill levels.
His understanding of music theory, including chords, scales, and rhythm, and his ability to explain these to students in a clear and understandable way, allow for a holistic approach to lessons.
For students interested in recording their music, Colin is enthusiastic to share his expertise in recording and production techniques as well.
Johnson César Augusto Gouvêa
Piano
Johnson Gouvêa is a pianist from Belo Horizonte, Brazil. His original studies were at the Universidade do Estado de Minas Gerais in his hometown, where he participated in many music festivals, piano masterclasses, and national piano competitions, being distinguished with first prizes and grants. Afterwards, he moved to Atlanta to study under the guidance of Dr. Sergio Gallo at Georgia State University, where he obtained a Master of Music in Piano Performance (2019) and Piano Pedagogy (2020). Currently, he is enrolled in the D.M.A program at the University of Washington, studying under the guidance of Dr. Robin McCabe. Johnson served as a TA for two quarters of the 2020/2021 academic year, and currently is working as a RA helping with the Seattle Piano Institute. Mr. Gouvêa has performed in masterclasses and festivals in Brazil, USA, and Europe, working with artists such as John Perry, Magdalena Baczewska, Dina Yofee, Sofia Gulyak and Charles Richard-Hamelin among many others. In 2017, he was awarded by the Chopin Society of Atlanta with The Elżbieta and Krzysztof Krawczyński Scholarship to participate in the Master Piano International Courses in Paris–France, and Valldemossa–Spain. At Georgia State University, he was awarded with the Stegner Piano Scholarship, won the Honors Recital Competition and Dean’s Award, and the Brumby Concerto Competition, performing the Schumann Concerto Op. 54 with the GSU Symphony Orchestra at the Rialto Center for the Arts. In June 2019, Mr. Gouvea performed at the Weill Recital Hall in Carnegie Hall. In July 2019, Mr. Gouvêa was awarded with a full scholarship to participate in the Seattle Piano Institute at the University of Washington. His community support and outreach of the arts can be seen in his TV appearance in Brazil and his further work in teaching and performing.
Honoka Cater
Piano
Honoka Cater is from Osaka, Japan. Honoka has studied both piano and the electric organ and has won a number of awards for her playing. She is finishing her Piano Performance degree at SPU this Fall where she also studied piano pedagogy. She is a multi-instrumentalist with experience playing strings, brass and the Japanese koto. She has also served in leadership roles with the Service and Mentorship Programs at her schools and loves seeing her students learn and grow.
Luis Armando Rivera
Piano
Luis Rivera earned his Bachelor in Piano Performance at Augusta University studying with Rosalyn Wright Floyd and Charles L. Fugo and received two Masters in Piano Performance and Piano Pedagogy with Sergio Gallo. Mr. Rivera began teaching piano during his undergraduate working with university students in group piano classes. During his studies in Atlanta, Mr. Rivera taught piano camps and individual lessons through community music centers throughout the Atlanta Metro. Outside of his interest in piano, his interests include composition and music theory. Mr. Rivera has previously won awards for his compositions, and his interests in music theory range from composers of Latin American and mathematical music theory. He is currently studying Music Theory with Dr. Jonathan Bernard at the University of Washington.
Hanyan Zhang
Piano
Hanyan Zheng earned her bachelor in piano performance at the China Conservatory, and her master’s degree in piano performance at the University of Michigan, where she studied with the celebrated American pianist Christopher Harding. She is currently pursuing the Doctoral degree of Musical Arts in piano performance at the University of Washington and studying with the American’s most communicative and persuasive artist Robin McCabe. Hanyan has given frequent solo and chamber music performance in United States; Switzerland and China. As the winner of the 2019 University of Washington concerto competition, she will be performing with Seattle Philharmonia Northwest.
Hanyan has taught numerous students both in United states and China. Now she is serving as a teaching assistant for the secondary piano program at the University of Washington. Hanyan has been dedicating herself to offer creative, inspiring experiences of piano teaching and she is willing to help more students find their own musical voice.
Kloe C.
Piano and Cello
Kloe is a classically trained pianist and has been teaching for over eight years. She is passionate about sharing her love for music through the lessons she offers. Her students describe her as skillful, engaging and inspiring. Aside from the piano, Kloe also plays the cello, chinese flute (Xiao), classical guitar and acoustic guitar and enjoys performing in both classical and contemporary settings. Her eclectic music background allows her to engage students of all walks of life and to help them find their own unique expression through piano playing. Although she was trained by classical piano pedagogy, she is passionate about exploring other genres of music with her students. She is also skillful in making music theory engaging for students of all ages and helping them build a strong music foundation. Born in the U.S and raised in China, Kloe is also trilingual in English, Mandarin and Cantonese.
D'Laney Jevas
Piano
D’Laney Jevas, a Southern California native, began playing the piano at age six. Under the guidance of Dr. Elvin Rodriguez, she participated in local competitions and concerts. Since then, D’Laney has collaborated with orchestras, choirs, soloists, and regularly participates in local, state-wide, and international festivals and competitions. She has had masterclasses with Alvin Chow, Alan Chow, Douglas Humphreys, Robin McCabe, Craig Sheppard, John Perry, and Ory Shihor.
Inspired by her mother, a math teacher, D’Laney began teaching private lessons at the age of 16, which lead to her ultimate goal of obtaining a doctoral degree in piano performance.
D’Laney holds a bachelor’s degree in piano performance from Oral Roberts University and a Performance Certificate from La Sierra University. She currently studies at the University of Washington under the tutelage of Dr. Robin McCabe where she will graduate with a master’s degree in piano performance in June of 2021. Upon completion of her master’s degree, D’Laney will continue her studies in the doctoral program at UW.
